Oprah goes to Stanford

By Coach Bay

The last blog entry was about J K Rowling doing this year's commencement address at Harvard University. A week later, Oprah was having the honor of doing the commencement speech at Stanford University in California.

Oprah delivered an inspiring speech, where she shared her personal experience, and provided the graduates with sound advice. You can see the full speech on video here.

Oprah talked about taking personal responsibility for your life. Rather than blaming somebody for your circumstances, take charge and ask yourself what you can do to make it better.

"When you are doing the work, you are meant to do, it feels right, and everyday is a bonus." - Oprah, Stanford 2008

She told the graduates about purpose and doing what feels right rather than trying to live up to other peoples expectations. Trust your feelings and your gut! Do what you are here to do. We all have a purpose, and we all have our unique gifts to share.

"To move forward, you have to give something back" - Oprah, Stanford 2008

Oprah highlighted the importance of service, and using what you do well to serve something bigger than yourself. We do not need a degree or special skills do that. We can all serve with the resources we have.

Tomorrow, we are leaving for annual vacation in Denmark. Next week, I will be spending another week as instructor at Camp True North for Danish teens. It is camp where we teach teens life and leadership skills.

It is such an awesome experience, and it is definitely a week, where I get to do what I love doing while serving something greater than myself. An extremely gratifying week.

As we have talked about so many times, we can all serve!

Have a great summer.

Keep Inspiring!

Happy Days
